last night i met john mcclane...

i'm so proud of myself! i actually skipped bible study last night. i've never skipped before so this is a big step for me! :) (i still need to call in sick to work one day...)

it was raining. and really cold. and really dark outside and probably dangerous to drive around anyway right?!

and then i got comfortable on my couch...
with a blanket...
looking at my christmas tree (that i still need to put ornaments on!)...
and started watching die hard!

and i really enjoyed it too!
and i think there are more die hards out there...
i'll have to check it out.

you deserve it!

i was home most of today and on the radio i couldn't help but listen to all the advertisements...

come to aarons...no one checks your credit at aarons!

mattress giant...come get your mattress and don't pay a cent for 4 years! interest free!

and we wonder why our country is in debt. people are in debt because they are buying things they can't afford! and our country is borrowing money just like the people are. even at work we offer lasik interest free for 18 months! crazy! and all the credit card adds telling us that we deserve what we want and we can pay for it later! it's such a lie...

maybe dave ramsey will run for president...hmmmm...

karri's wedding

at the rehearsal dinner at hammonds bbq...don't people think about me at all when they're planning their wedding?! i can't eat bbq! jk..i know it's not about me...plus karri already checked into it and i was able to get a chef salad with no meat. of course i had to look at everyone else's pulled pork sandwiches...ewwww! (me and amy)

you can even go to breakfast in your pjs and boots! of course the continental breakfast was in the barn!!! this was sarah working it at the photo shoot. i was trying to figure out what she was doing and asking her to get ready for the picture. lol...

november 21, 2009 - karri, nicholas, and chris...

catching up with the girls....i do like to color! (me, ella and samantha...and baby #3 looks like it's going to be a third girl!!!)

the bridesmaids dresses were fun...and the cowboy boots very practical with all the mud we had to walk through and other surprises out in the hay field... i sure was glad to get home and take a nice long shower after my 'camping' this weekend!' i'm so a city girl! (sarah, lauri, me, amy, emily, lindsey, and nikki!) the backdrop for pictures was amazing!!!

what a fun weekend! welcome to the family chris! oh and the best part....we danced out of the wedding chapel and i got to lead the way. i was supposed to start it off and lauri was supposed to follow. all day lauri would go back and forth...i'm not going to do it...ok i'll do it. i was like 'i can't be the only one who dances out!!' but everyone did. amy did the hammer...and linds and sarah wore their sunglasses and shimmed on out. and the guys followed...even the jp. we have it video and will put in on u-tube. we all decided that we missed our fame and fortune because we should have been on a reality show. it's not too late... haha...

great weekend home

i went to dallas last week and i don't know why but i've turned into the quickest traveler. i wasn't even gone a full two days. i think i get homesick as i'm packing. it beats my last trip of 24 hours at the lake house so at least i'm improving...

anyway, the drive was good...and i got to go to dinner at cpk with my dad, my two brothers austin and david, and my adorable sister-in-law nikki.

the next morning i got up, took henry on a walk, and i went to my mom's first grade class at highland meadows elementary. she sent two students to meet me in the office and take her to her room. when they saw me the 6 year old girl shook her said and said to the receptionist, 'this isn't her. we are picking up a little girl.' i guess when mom told them her daughter was here, they weren't expecting a grown up girl! lol...

it was so fun to see her in action...the kids were so cute and they all sat around on the blanket while i told them about how i was an eye doctor and i wore glasses when i was 8. later mom was reading a book about nocturnal animals and asked how bats slept. this little boy said, 'with a blanket?'...mom tried to help him out and give him another chance and he said, 'with a pillow?' so priceless! this little black girl next to him said, 'no! you're thinking about US.'

then i got to go to northpark! except i'm a horrible shopper and after and hour or two of looking at banana and jcrew for some skinny jeans i was about to give up. i got a starbucks and called my sister sarah. she said to go to nordstrom and ask for straight leg privacy jeans. she emphasized to ask for help and not try to do it myself. well, 15 min later i had my new jeans (i ended up getting citizens). why doesn't knowing how to shop come naturally to me?

that night i got to go to my little brother's 9th grade football game. he plays corner...and (i learned a new word) he got a pick last week! i was wishing i had brought my glasses to the game, but it was still fun to watch even if all the little guys were blurry on the field.

we met up with elyse after the game...where she and my dad tried to convince me (like always) why i should move back to dallas. why am i still in houston?? i don't know...i'm actually getting the itch to move somewhere, but want to make sure it's what god wants and isn't just for a change of scenery. i love elyse and it's always fun to see her!

the next day i slept in till, like 10! and henry and i headed back to houston...i won't be home for thanksgiving (karri is getting married the weekend before outside of dallas and i'll be spending thanksgiving with julie) or christmas (i'm going skiing with my dad the week of new year's) so it was nice to get a trip in to dallas to relax and hang out.

hopefully next trip will be a little longer...

flu shots

i never get flu shots. well one time i did. they were giving them for free at work. but i think i got sick a couple of days after.

so i passed this year on the flu shot. but now they are offerring the h1n1 vaccine and i passed on that one too. and the nurse asked me if i was sure and i told her that i got sick that one time and i know it was from the shot.

she asked me if i was allergic to eggs (which i now know is not dairy but just something else i am sensitive to) and i said yes. and she said the vaccine contains a small amount of egg protein. so that's why i don't like them!

i also always test positive for tb....but the chest x-rays are always negative.

where are you?

there are basically three stages to following christ.

[1] believer
-in order to believe in jesus, you must first realize you need him, that you need a savior. you must know how broken you are and without him you would die (for the wages of sin is death romans 6:23). i remember feeling that something was missing in my life...and it was jesus. once you realize you need jesus, then you can accept what he did for you. he loved you so much that he died for you and paid the price...so that you could have eternal life.

[2] follower
-after you confess jesus is lord, and believe in your heart god raised him from the dead, then you are saved (romans 10:9)...and the next step is to get to know jesus. you do this by reading his word. god talks to us through his word, and we speak to him through prayer. get involved in a bible study...read the the whole bible...and fellowship with other christians so you can see what it looks like to follow jesus. the more i learn about jesus and how holy he is, the more i am convicted of my sin, and the more grateful i am that he came to save me. walking with jesus is a daily commitment...leaving your burdens at his feet and confessing your sins to him, and living with the confidence that you are saved and loved by the king of kings and the lord or lords.

[3] disciple
-once you are saved and know jesus, he wants us to be so full of his light that we can't help but share it with others. paul said that his life was worth nothing to him unless he was telling others about the gospel of god's grace (acts 20:24).

what's your purpose? why do you think you are here living? are you living for yourself? or are you living for god? where are you in these steps? the most important step is the first because it determines your salvation for eternity.

the bible tells us that this earth is not our home. we are foreigners...sometimes i don't feel like i fit in, but i guess that's a good thing. i can't wait for heaven sometimes. but as long as god still has me here, i hope to live for him. for that is where i find true joy. everything is meaningless...like chasing after the wind (ecclesiates 1:14)
