i went to dallas last week and i don't know why but i've turned into the quickest traveler. i wasn't even gone a full two days. i think i get homesick as i'm packing. it beats my last trip of 24 hours at the lake house so at least i'm improving...
anyway, the drive was good...and i got to go to dinner at cpk with my dad, my two brothers austin and david, and my adorable sister-in-law nikki.
the next morning i got up, took henry on a walk, and i went to my mom's first grade class at highland meadows elementary. she sent two students to meet me in the office and take her to her room. when they saw me the 6 year old girl shook her said and said to the receptionist, 'this isn't her. we are picking up a little girl.' i guess when mom told them her daughter was here, they weren't expecting a grown up girl! lol...
it was so fun to see her in action...the kids were so cute and they all sat around on the blanket while i told them about how i was an eye doctor and i wore glasses when i was 8. later mom was reading a book about nocturnal animals and asked how bats slept. this little boy said, 'with a blanket?'...mom tried to help him out and give him another chance and he said, 'with a pillow?' so priceless! this little black girl next to him said, 'no! you're thinking about US.'
then i got to go to northpark! except i'm a horrible shopper and after and hour or two of looking at banana and jcrew for some skinny jeans i was about to give up. i got a starbucks and called my sister sarah. she said to go to nordstrom and ask for straight leg privacy jeans. she emphasized to ask for help and not try to do it myself. well, 15 min later i had my new jeans (i ended up getting citizens). why doesn't knowing how to shop come naturally to me?
that night i got to go to my little brother's 9th grade football game. he plays corner...and (i learned a new word) he got a pick last week! i was wishing i had brought my glasses to the game, but it was still fun to watch even if all the little guys were blurry on the field.
we met up with elyse after the game...where she and my dad tried to convince me (like always) why i should move back to dallas. why am i still in houston?? i don't know...i'm actually getting the itch to move somewhere, but want to make sure it's what god wants and isn't just for a change of scenery. i love elyse and it's always fun to see her!
the next day i slept in till, like 10! and henry and i headed back to houston...i won't be home for thanksgiving (karri is getting married the weekend before outside of dallas and i'll be spending thanksgiving with julie) or christmas (i'm going skiing with my dad the week of new year's) so it was nice to get a trip in to dallas to relax and hang out.
hopefully next trip will be a little longer...
