austin!

here are some pics from my trip to austin this past week.

sarah's trunk show was a hit!! i love helping her with the sales.

my view from my room was awesome. austin is soooo pretty...maybe i'll move there someday...

it was like staying in a hotel...

here was the yummy bed i got to sleep in at mer's (reminded me of my old room...i lived with her family for 3 months almost 3 years ago in the woodlands)

i think mom was searching for her camera here...we got a lot of cute pics!

amy's place was sooo cute! (that's not henry, but a dog named 'chicken'...)

trying to find lindsey some cute shoes...

travis hard at work...jk! he was actually looking up how big their place was (amy thought her place was small, but it's bigger than all of ours!)

high energy or laid back?

lately two or three guys have mentioned 'you are so laid back'...not by me asking what they thought, but just something they randomly volunteered. and each time they say that i am confused...i don't think i'm laid back at all! do they just not know me? do i come across as laid back? so anyway, i started a poll to see what others think. maybe i'm a little of both, depending on whom i'm around...i don't know!

picky picky

like owner, like dog?...

i just bought henry some new dog food and it actually SAYS on the bag 'for finicky eaters.' well, he eats part of the food, but he doesn't like the small black pieces. so i find them all over my kitchen floor all the time now. don't worry, i'm being a good dog mom and making him eat all of it until i give him more food. it's a mess though!

one year has gone by fast...

last year this week i was in guatemala at the casa bernabe orphanage. it doesn't seem like it's been that long. i remember thinking before i left that i wanted to go back someday. hopefully i will get to someday.

this year i won't be going on a traditional 'mission trip' but i am going to europe for 10 days with a friend of mine and 38 high school students (2 other chaperones)!!!! she's a history teacher and has done trips for a couple of years.

i'm excited to see how i like working with kids this age and how i can minister to them as an 'older and wiser' adult. i am praying and asking to show himself to us on the trip and to provide opportunities to talk about him to the kids. the trip isn't not sponsored by the school so talking about god is something my friend plans on doing and has done in the past.

we leave in 19 days!!! i was trying to decide if i should take a camera or not...lately i haven't been taking cameras because i don't want to spend more time taking pictures than enjoying what i am seeing. i will be taking food though! already planning that...

one butterfly down, four to go...

i was just working on the next butterfly (and it's 11:00pm, which may explain what happened) and i realized i am off by a row and will have to take out almost every stitch i did tonight to make it right again...it's way too depressing to do tonight, but tomorrow my perfectionism will kick in and of course i'll fix it. ;)

hard to say good bye

emily and i got along great...despite some miscommunication:

emily - i'm thinking about looking for a ymca to go work out.
me - oh that's a great idea (no surprise to me at all...emily is always working out at the y)
later in the week...
emily - i just took henry on a walk, and saw that you have a workout facility here in your apartment complex.
me - oh yeah...OH!! i should have told you about that before you starting driving all over houston looking for the y, huh?

and...

me - emily you won't believe what this creepy guy said to me...
(emily listens, but i get distracted with how cute she is looking in her dinner outfit...but she thinks i am telling her what the guy said)
me - you look really cute. (she is staring at me kind of funny). you do... that color is soooo pretty on you. (she looks disgusted!...i realize what she's thinking...)
me - no! it's that's not what the guy said, it's what i'm saying right now. lol! we really laughed at that one...

we had fun eating yummy CRAVE cupcakes! (emily halved them so we could try both flavors...)

eating at blue fish...even though i don't like sushi and she couldn't eat because her tummy hurt....we had just made banana bread and had eaten too much of the batter...sorry em! (corinne came too...emily is a lot taller than her!)

i don't know who is going to miss emily more...me or henry!

i miss you emily!!! :) love you sooooooooooooooo much!!!! come back soon!

emily's eye exam

emily said one of her contacts had a tear in it, so i told her i would get her a sample at my office and check her eyes for her. so we go up and as i do the exam here are some of her comments...

'are you going to be mean and make me read the really small letters.'

'my eyes are hurting' (asking her the smallest line she can read)

'i hate this part! i don't feel useful and i can never tell the difference between the two choices!' (during the refraction)

'do you feel really rude right now?' (shining the bright light on her retina)

'yeah, that's what the other doctors do too...roll around in their little chairs, moving stuff around..."

she was totally cracking me up...but she wasn't kidding. she really had a horrible time! and i didn't even check her pressure or dilate her! she said would rather go to the dentist and ob/gyn rather than get her eyes checked!

day 2 with emily...

we were watching the mavs play last night (and they won!!! go mavs!...they won't make it to the next round, but at least they avoided the embarrassing sweep) and then i said..

me "and last night we did really well..."

emily (looks at me confused), "what?"

me "we won by like 20 points! you said you watched the game with matthew...'

emily (in shock) "did you say 'we' as in the rockets?! what!? kim what's happened to you!?"

me "oh...well i have lived here almost 10 years now em."

so it was funny...'we' to me can mean mavs or rockets i guess. :) and they are both still in the game...

are we talking about the same bed?

my sister emily is staying with me this week while she takes a nursing review course for her boards coming up (soooo proud of her becoming an RN and getting an ER internship this summer at baylor...the top ER in the country! she's awesome!)

so we were going to bed last night and here are the comments as we both lied down...

emily "i feel like i'm at a resort! your bed is so comfortable! kim, your bed is amazing!"

me "i feel all the down feathers...they feel little needles poking me! this is horrible!"

then we look at each other and start laughing, realizing that we are in the same bed but with two totally different experiences...she then tells me 'you are sooo the princess and the pea!' well maybe i am...

so tonight before i go to bed, i am going to turn my down mattress pad back to the non-needle-feeling-poking side, and i am sure emily will still be content. she's very easy to please...
